Cycling marathon 2011

1. Description:

The “Factor Foundation” did organized the first national cycling marathon of Bulgaria with a total length of 3150 km. Cycling marathon has been held between April 2 and May 4, 2011 to promote the cause:“Cycle Safe”.

Tour Marathon, “Bulgaria 2011″ aims at promoting the bicycle as a vehicle for safe movement in cities and towns.
With this initiative we want to contribute to good health and mental comfort of the citizens.
Cycling eco marathon been passed through 28 regional centers in Bulgaria, presented to the public the benefits and experience by using a bicycle – a model for sustainable transport.

• Building and maintaining a national network of bicycle roads in Bulgaria.
• Standardisation in the construction of cycling infrastructure, construction and road markings.
• Establishment of European cycling tourist corridor in Bulgaria – “EuroVelo”. Maintenance of existing roads for biking and bicycling.
• Road marking for existing, newly constructed roads and bike roads.

2. The steps towards the promotion of safe cycling:

1. Popularization and promotion of a vehicle – a bicycle.
2. Standardization of road signs that give warning to the bikers.
3. Standardization of bicycle ways as size, type of surface transitions at intersections and appropriate markings associated with it.
4. Training of bikers and children to teach standard rules of traffic and how to behave on the bicycle roads. Stimulation of the educational culture in promoting: “Bicycle is not a toy when you are on a road!”
5. Promotional education at the national level aimed at motorists who are required to accept cyclist as an equal participant in the movement.
6. Combine routes from “Zone 30” in cities with those for cycling and marked with appropriate signs and markings warning of the emergence of cyclists.
7. Separating and combining emergency lane between the cities for biking and bicycling, and marked with appropriate signs and markings warning of the emergence of cyclists.
8. Infrastructure of cycling road network of bicycle alleys in cities, connecting major towns and industrial areas with residential and marked with appropriate signs and markings warning of the emergence of cyclists.
9. Infrastructure national cycling network aimed at cycling means of a tourist road markings, signs and signs warning of the emergence of cyclists.

3. All on the bicycles!

4. Program:

Cycling marathon of Bulgaria will be the sum of the daily, during which interested can be included in the core group for a day or two. Safety will be provided escort.

1. Departure from the municipality. Gather in front of a municipality at 8-30AM.
2. Small demo 15-30 minutes (with megaphone). Photo all together for the media.
